There are three classifications or levels of membership in AFP:
Open to individuals with at least one year of experience as a fundraising professional at the time of application, including as a self-employed contract worker or consultant or as a paid employee of an organization or institution. Active members also:
• Hold a degree of accountability for income generation within the philanthropic process
• Spend at least a quarter of their time on fundraising-related responsibilities
• Are employed or have been employed by an organization or institution that provides benefits to society
Open to individuals newly employed in the fundraising field; to full-time students in a degree-granting, certificate or diploma program; to members who work in grassroots organizations with an operating budget of $250,000 or less; to executive directors who spend less than 25% of their time on fundraising-related responsibilities; and to volunteers. Membership in this category is limited to two years.
Open to individuals who are engaged in fields related to fundraising, volunteers, or those who have mutual interests with fundraising professionals.
All dues are payable annually on an anniversary date basis. In the event of a change of employment, address, etc., it is the responsibility of the member to supply written notification of the change to AFP National headquarters.
